The westward migration and settlement of these families is described in the following excerpt from the History of Venango County, Pennsylvania, page 560 : This family moved in 1818, along with with Mercy's parents and her siblings Nathan, John, and Charles, to newly laid out Venango County in northwestern Pennsylvania, becoming among the first settlers in that part of the woodland wilderness. He married, at Stonington, Connecticut, Mercy Breed. This evidence should supersede that which was presented in the Breed genealogy with middle initial 'J'. The depicted grave marker is inscribed with the middle initial 'S'.
